The short version: Moonscribed exists so families can make bedtime stories together. We collect only what the app needs to work, we never sell your data, we show no ads, and we do not track you across other apps or websites. Your stories live on your device.
What we collect, and why
- Your account. An email address, a password (stored only in securely hashed form by our authentication provider), and an optional display name. This is how your stories, characters, and monthly allowances stay yours.
- What you tell us about your storytelling. Character profiles (names, ages, and the playful details you choose to add) and your story requests (genre, length, themes). These are stored on your device and sent to our servers only at the moment you ask for a story, a picture, or narration — that's how the story gets made.
- Voice recordings — only if you choose. If you use "record your own voice," your recording is sent to our speech partner to create your private narration voice, and a copy of the sample is stored securely so your voice can be restored if you reinstall. We never create a voice from anyone except the person who recorded it, and you can ask us to delete it at any time.
- Usage records. We log what was generated on your account (counts and sizes — for example, "one short story, three illustrations") to power your monthly allowance meters and to prevent abuse. These records are about quantities, not surveillance.
- Purchases. Subscriptions are billed by Apple. We never see your card number. A subscription-management service processes your App Store receipt so the app knows which plan is active.
- Book orders. If you order a printed book, your shipping name and address go to our print-and-ship partner solely to make and deliver that book.
What we don't do
- No advertising, and no advertising trackers.
- No selling or renting your data — to anyone, ever.
- No tracking you across other companies' apps or websites.
- No use of your family's stories, characters, or voices to train AI models of our own, and we only share them with the processors below to fulfill your own requests.
The services that help us make your stories
Moonscribed is powered by a small set of processors, each receiving only what its job requires: Supabase (accounts, secure storage, database), Vercel and DigitalOcean (hosting), Anthropic (writing the story text and running our safety checks), Together AI and Google (painting illustrations), ElevenLabs (narration and your personal voice), RevenueCat (subscription receipts), Apple (payments), and our print partners (physical book fulfillment). Each processes your data under its own privacy commitments and our instructions.
Children
Moonscribed accounts are created and managed by parents and other adults; the app is not directed to children under 13 as account holders. The details in stories about your children are the details you choose to share, and every story request passes through automated safety moderation designed to keep content gentle and age-appropriate.
How long we keep things
Account data and usage records are kept while your account exists. Stories live on your device and are gone when you delete them there. Cached narration audio is kept so replays stay free, and voice samples are kept so your personal voice survives a reinstall — both are removed when you delete your account or ask us to remove them.
Your choices and rights
You can access, correct, export, or delete your data — including deleting your account and your voice — by using the app's account screen or emailing us. We answer at the address below, and we honor applicable privacy laws wherever you live.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, we'll update the effective date above and, for significant changes, tell you in the app.
